General
The basics about splitty
01 What is splitty?
splitty is an iOS app that splits restaurant bills in under 30 seconds. Scan the receipt with your camera, assign items to people, and send payment requests via Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal. No account required. Learn more about splitty →
02 Why does fair splitting matter?
Equal splits can cost you up to 37% more—research shows people order more when they know the bill will be shared. Fair splits stop you from subsidizing expensive orders. Read the full research →
03 Do I need an account?
No. Open the app, scan a receipt, split it. No email, no signup, nothing. You could delete the app afterward and lose nothing—the split is complete, payments sent.
04 Do my friends need splitty?
No. Only you need the app. Your friends just receive a normal Venmo request (or whatever payment method you use). They don't need to download anything.
05 Is it really free?
You get 3 free workflows to try—scans or manual entries. After that, it's $9.99/year or $24.99 lifetime for unlimited splits. All features are available during the trial—just the workflow count is limited. Payment integrations like Venmo are always free.
06 How accurate is the receipt reading?
99%+ on typical restaurant receipts. splitty reads every line item, modifier, tax, and tip. You can edit anything if needed—but you rarely will.
07 Can I split digital receipts from delivery apps?
Yes. Paste the receipt URL from DoorDash, Uber Eats, Toast, Square, or other platforms. splitty renders the page and reads it automatically—same accuracy as paper receipts. See all supported receipts.
08 Is splitty available on Android?
Not yet—splitty is iOS-only for now. If your group has Android users, that's a real limitation.
09 Is there a web version?
No. splitty is mobile-only because the use case is mobile—you're at a restaurant with the check in hand. A web app doesn't fit that moment.
10 What iOS version do I need?
iOS 26 or later. splitty uses Apple's Liquid Glass design and requires the latest iOS.
11 What currencies does splitty support?
180+ currencies—the complete ISO 4217 standard. USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, IDR, and 175+ more. Your device's locale sets the default, or pick any currency manually.
12 Can I convert between currencies?
No. splitty supports receipts in any currency, but doesn't convert between them. If your receipt is in Euros and you want to request payment in USD, that's not our thing.
13 What data does splitty collect?
Minimal, privacy-focused analytics with no personal identifiers. We don't know who you are—there's no account. We track anonymous usage patterns to improve the app, nothing more.
14 Is my receipt data stored in the cloud?
No. splitty is local-first—your receipt data stays on your device. The OCR processing happens in the cloud, but we don't store your receipts or the items on them.
15 Does splitty work offline?
For manual entry, yes. For scanning, you need internet—the camera reads, but the cloud does the heavy lifting.
16 Is splitty a legitimate app?
Yes. splitty is on the App Store, rated 4.7★, and reviewed by Apple. We don't store payment credentials—we just open Venmo/Cash App with pre-filled amounts.
17 What permissions does splitty need?
Camera (for scanning receipts) and optionally Photos (for importing images). No contacts, location, or microphone access.
18 Is splitty available in my country?
Yes. splitty works globally with 180+ currencies. Payment methods like PayPal and Revolut work internationally.
Delivery Apps
Splitting DoorDash, Uber Eats, and other delivery orders
01 Can you split payment on DoorDash?
DoorDash's split payment feature is limited to group orders—and even then, it's clunky. Most people screenshot the receipt and use splitty to divide items fairly. Full DoorDash guide →
02 How do I split a DoorDash group order?
DoorDash group orders let everyone add items, but payment still goes to one person. Use splitty to scan the receipt and request fair amounts from each person via Venmo or Cash App.
03 Can I split an Uber Eats order?
Uber Eats doesn't have built-in split payment. Screenshot or forward the receipt to splitty—we read digital receipts from Uber Eats automatically. Full Uber Eats guide →
04 How should delivery fees and tips be split?
Proportionally—the person who ordered more should pay more of the delivery fee and tip. splitty does this automatically. Deep dive on delivery fees →
How It Works
Understanding the splitting process
01 What if the check is faded or crumpled?
Most checks—even worn ones—scan fine. If something looks off, you can edit any item or type it in manually.
02 Can I split shared items like appetizers?
Yes. Mark an item as shared and select who's splitting it. splitty divides that item's cost among those people, then distributes their share of tax and tip proportionally.
03 How does tax work?
splitty reads the actual tax amount from the check—not a guessed percentage. Tax gets distributed proportionally. The person who ordered more pays more tax.
04 Can I add a custom tip?
Yes. Enter any tip amount and it gets split proportionally based on each person's share of the bill. The person with the $45 ribeye contributes more to the tip than the person with the $12 salad.
05 Do I have to assign every item?
No. All items start split equally by default. You just tap to tweak who got specific items—way faster than starting from scratch with nothing assigned.
06 Can I split by percentage instead of items?
Not directly—splitty is item-based because that's fairer. But you can manually adjust final amounts if needed.
07 Can I save groups for future splits?
Yes. Create a saved group (like "Roommates" or "Work lunch crew") and reuse it for faster splitting.
Splitting Etiquette
The social side of splitting bills
01 Is it rude to ask for separate checks?
No—but many restaurants dislike it. The smoother move: one person pays, then uses splitty to request fair amounts from everyone. No awkward server negotiation. Scripts for asking →
02 What if I didn't drink but everyone else did?
Speak up, or use splitty—assign drinks to whoever ordered them, and you'll only pay for what you had. This is the #1 reason people overpay on splits. When one couple drinks →
03 What if someone orders way more expensive food?
They should pay for what they ordered. splitty makes this automatic—no confrontation needed. The steakhouse problem →
04 How do I handle a birthday dinner split?
Mark the birthday person's items as shared among everyone else. Their share becomes $0 automatically. Complete birthday guide →
05 How much should I tip in 2026?
18-20% for full service, 15-18% for counter service, $2-5 for delivery. We have a complete guide with every scenario. 2026 Tipping Guide →
Payment
Getting paid and payment methods
01 Does splitty store my Venmo credentials?
No. splitty never sees your login. It opens the Venmo app with a pre-filled request. All authentication happens in Venmo. We don't store any payment credentials.
02 What if someone doesn't have Venmo?
Use multiple payment methods. Send Venmo to friends who have it, Cash App or PayPal to others—all from the same split. See all payment methods.
03 Does splitty send money?
No. splitty sends payment requests. You're asking friends to pay you, not sending money from your account. You stay in control.
04 Some payment methods say "copy + paste"?
Yes. For Cash App, GoPay, OVO, and DANA, splitty copies the amount and note to your clipboard and opens the app. You paste the details manually. It's still faster than typing everything from scratch.
Compared to Alternatives
How splitty stacks up against other apps
01 What's the difference between splitty and Splitwise?
Different tools for different jobs. Splitwise is for tracking ongoing expenses over months—rent, utilities, groceries with roommates. splitty is for splitting tonight's dinner in 30 seconds. Splitwise tracks. splitty settles. Full comparison.
02 Should I use splitty for a trip?
03 Why choose splitty over Splitwise?
Speed. If the check just arrived and you want everyone settled before leaving, splitty gets it done in 30 seconds. Splitwise is overkill for a one-time dinner—it's designed for ongoing expense tracking over months.
