Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2025
Overview
splitty ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
Receipt Data: When you scan or import a receipt, the image is uploaded to our secure servers for processing. Extracted data (items, totals, merchant info) is stored locally on your device. Receipt images are retained in secure cloud storage associated with an anonymous device identifier.
Usage Analytics: We collect anonymous usage data to improve the app experience. This includes features used, session duration, and app performance metrics. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
Crash Reports: If the app crashes, we may collect diagnostic information to help us fix bugs and improve stability.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide bill-splitting functionality
- To improve app performance and user experience
- To fix bugs and resolve technical issues
- To develop new features based on usage patterns
Data Storage
Your bill and split data is stored locally on your device. Receipt images are uploaded to our secure cloud storage for processing and to enable viewing past receipts within the app.
We do not have access to your personal financial information or payment credentials. Receipt images are associated with an anonymous device identifier—we cannot link them to you personally.
No Account, No Personal Data
splitty doesn't require an account. We don't collect your name, email, phone number, or any information that identifies you personally.
Receipt images are linked to an anonymous device identifier—a random string that lets you view your past receipts, but can't be traced back to you. We have no way to know who you are.
This means traditional data rights requests (like GDPR's "right to erasure") don't apply in the usual sense—there's no personal data to erase. Uninstalling the app removes all local data. If you want cloud-stored receipt images deleted, contact us with your device identifier (found in Settings) and we'll remove them.
Data Retention
Receipt images are retained indefinitely to let you view past splits. Since images aren't linked to a personal identity, there's no automatic deletion timeline.
Want your receipt images deleted? Contact us at [email protected] with your device identifier (found in Settings → About) and we'll remove them from our servers.
International Users
splitty is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the US, your data (including receipt images) is transferred to and processed on servers in the United States. By using splitty, you consent to this transfer.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Microsoft Azure: For receipt text recognition (OCR). Images are processed to extract text and receipt data.
- Supabase: For secure receipt image storage. Images are associated with an anonymous device identifier.
- RevenueCat: For managing in-app subscriptions.
- PostHog: For anonymous usage analytics and app improvement.
- Sentry: For crash reporting and error tracking. If the app crashes, we may capture a screenshot of the current app state and device diagnostics to help us identify and fix bugs.
Payment Methods
When you use payment integrations (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, etc.), you are redirected to those services. We do not store or have access to your payment credentials or transaction history.
Your Rights
Delete local data: Uninstall the app or use "Clear Data" in Settings. This removes all bill data from your device immediately.
Delete cloud data: Email us at [email protected] with your device identifier and we'll delete your receipt images from our servers.
Note for EU/California residents: Since we don't collect personal information (no account, no email, no name), most data protection regulations like GDPR and CCPA don't apply in the traditional sense. We can't identify "your" data because we don't know who you are.
Children's Privacy
splitty is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or via email if you've provided one.
